Solo Jazz C: The Big Apple and social Solo Jazz
When you take a Swing dance lesson with Rhythm City, you’re sure to participate in a circle jazz warm-up: the instructors do some basic jazz steps in the centre; the students follow on the outside of the circle. This is in the spirit of social solo dances of old and is called a “big apple” with the leader in the core or centre of the apple. This practice was turned into a routine by Frankie Manning for the 1939 movie Keep Punchin’. Lindy hoppers around the world have learned this dance and perform it for fun at evening dances.
In this series you will learn this routine and practice solo dancing socially with your peers.
