Balboa

We are excited to introduce our first Balboa series, taught by local and travelling Balboa experts, Angie Weddell and Matt Lam.

Balboa is a swing dance that originated in Southern California in the 1920s and 30s. Built for speed and crowded ballrooms, Balboa is characterized by driving rhythm and strong partner connection. See this video of instructors Angie & Matt dancing both pure Balboa and Bal-Swing.
Balboa 1 will introduce pure Balboa, which is danced in a close embrace. No experience necessary.
Balboa 2 will cover essential bal-swing figures as well as transitions between pure balboa and bal-swing. Students should be comfortable with the pure balboa basic.
Balboa 3 will cover more bal-swing figures including out & ins and swivels, transitions, and musical and styling variations. Students in this class should already be comfortable with the pure balboa basic, lollies, and inside turns (toss-outs/throw outs).

Balboa students enjoy a discounted admission of $5 to the regular DJ'ed weekly dance, Rhythm City Strut.
